Brandless™ to Partner with Pod Foods for Brick and Mortar Retail Launch
Provo, Utah — November 10, 2020 — Brandless™, the community-driven, direct-to-consumer company acquired this year by Clarke Capital Partners, has partnered with Pod Foods as part of its relaunch strategy. In accordance with the partnership, Brandless products including its non-toxic household cleaning supplies, personal care, healthcare, and beauty items will be found in select brick and mortar retail locations across the country early next year.
Pod Foods is a tech-enabled wholesale distribution company backed by M12 (Microsoft’s venture arm), Moment Ventures, and Unshackled VC, which leverages a transparent, B2B marketplace and end-to-end logistics network to help retailers procure the products consumers want in a seamless fashion.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Pod Foods to offer consumers another way to purchase a variety of our top-selling items,” said Ryan Treft, CEO of Brandless. “Pod Foods helps us with our mission to pass on savings and value to the consumer, as it takes away the monotonous, time-intensive process required to get set up as a vendor with brick and mortar retailers. They also simplify the fees and terms, making this process much more manageable and allowing us to continue offering great products at fair prices.”
The partnership is in line with the new Brandless commitment to drive growth by expanding into an omnichannel approach without unnecessary markups. The Pod Foods business model, originally conceived for emerging brands, aligns incentives and reallocates margin in the grocery supply chain so that brands can continue to grow.
“Traditional distributors evolved from a different era of consumption,” said Larissa Russell, CEO of Pod Foods. “The Pod Foods distribution model allows retailers to cater to consumer preferences in a much more nimble, personalized way instead of by region or banner.”
With a heightened understanding of expected store-level demand for products, Brandless intends to maintain a smaller, curated catalog in retail and right-size manufacturing accordingly.
“We are excited to work with Brandless — there’s a lot of opportunities given the diversity of their manufacturing capabilities,” Russell added. “Especially with COVID, consumers are looking for affordable, staple items.”
